Why Teachable Hearts
A
teachable heart is a soft heart that is tender towards God and
responsive to
receiving truth in humility. A person who is humble in heart
is someone
who is always seeking the wisdom of God and is dependent on the Holy
Spirit. This means we are submitted to His leadership and
trusting in Him
to lead and guide us into all truth. John 16:13
“But when he, the
Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not
speak on
his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is
yet to
come”. He has taken away our heart of stone that is
cold towards God
and given us a new heart of flesh, one that is responsive to
Him and
teachable. Ezek 11:19 “I will give them an undivided
heart and put a
new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and
give them
a heart of flesh”.
The
Lord desires that we learn how to wait and listen for His
voice. Psalm
46:10 “Cease striving and know that I am God”.
As
we sit quietly before God, we can learn to discern the voice of the
Holy
Spirit. If what you want to say to someone is very important,
you would
require their undivided attention. So also, the Holy Spirit
often does
not speak to us until we slow down and give Him the focused attention
of our
hearts.
God
wants us to walk in the light of His truth, maturing spiritually into
the image
of His Son. When we are teachable, we grow. But
being teachable is
not just about hearing a lot of teaching. James
1:22 “Do not merely
listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves, do what it says”.
We
must put the spiritual truths we learn into practice.
Are
we quick to respond to God’s instruction? When He teaches us
through his
Word about His desires for our lives, are we obedient?
An
attitude of “I already know that” is a hindrance to having a teachable
heart,
as we resist God’s showing us areas in our lives that He wants to
change.
Humbly trusting God is essential to cultivating a teachable heart. It draws us into deeper fellowship with God. It opens the way for Him to show us our sin, cultivates our spiritual maturity and brings us into ever sweeter fellowship with Him.

Teachable
Hearts web site, community (Christian discussion forum) and
residence (chat rooms) came into being through what the administrators
believe
was a prompting of The Holy Spirit to provide a place which would aid
and
assist the cultivation of a teachable heart. It would be arrogant to
claim the
web site has all the answers to the very difficult questions that often
divide
those who Our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus gave Himself for to make
one in
Him. Our hope and prayer is that it may be a beginning. May Teachable
Hearts be
a place of peace, love, and unity where all believers in Messiah Yeshua
can
come and listen, share, learn, pray, praise encourage and be encouraged
and be
built up in Our wonderful Lord and Saviour Jesus, The Christ, The Son
of God.
We
pray for this new website Teachable Hearts. We pray that you will bless
it and all who use it. May it be a place where we can come together in
our
precious Saviour Jesus Christ, to support and encourage one another.
Grant us
your peace and with the help of The Holy Spirit let us build each other
up in
love and in truth.
May we with humble hearts have a burning desire to grow closer to you
and a
deep longing to grow in your wisdom.
