The assembly of the Angels was amazed to behold Thee,
O Saviour, numbered among the dead,
Thou Who didst raise Adam with Thyself,
And didst deliver all from hell.

Blessed art Thou, O Lord, teach me Thy rights.

Why do you pitifully mingle myrrh with your tears, O women disciples?
Cried the radiant Angel in the tomb to the Myrrhbearers.
Behold the grave and rejoice, that the Saviour has risen from the tomb.

Blessed art Thou, O Lord, teach me Thy rights.

From early in the morning, the Myrrhbearers ran lamenting to Thy tomb.
But an Angel floated towards them and said:
The time for lamentation has come to an end.
Weep not, but announce the Resurrection to the Apostles.

Blessed art Thou, O Lord, teach me Thy rights.

The Myrrhbearing Women came with myrrh to Thy tomb, O Saviour, and mourned.
But an Angel said to them distinctly: Why number the living among the dead?
For as God He has risen from the tomb.

Blessed art Thou, O Lord, teach me Thy rights.

When the stone had been sealed by the Jews and when the soldiers were guarding Thy pure Body,
O Saviour, Thou didst rise on the third day and give life to the world.
Therefore, the Powers of Heaven cried to Thee, O Giver of life:
Glory to Thy Resurrection, O Christ!
Glory to Thy Kingdom!
Glory to Thy Providence, O only Lover of men!

+++

Thou didst rise as God from the tomb with glory and with Thyself didst raise the world,
And the nature of men sings to Thee as God, and death has vanished, and Adam dances for joy, O Lord,
And Eve, now freed from her fetters rejoices, crying:
Thou, O Christ, art He Who gives to all resurrection.

You have destroyed death by Your Cross, You have opened Paradise to the thief.
You have changed the lamentation of the Myrrbearers into joy,
And You have commanded Your Apostles to proclaim that You, O Christ our God,
Have risen and granted the world great mercy.

+++

No longer can the dominion of death hold mortals,
For Christ has come down and has shattered and broken its power.
Hell is bound, and the Prophets rejoice with one voice, saying:
The Saviour has appeared to those who have faith.
Come out, you faithful, for the Resurrection.

Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this evening without sin.
Blessed art Thou, O Lord, the God of our Fathers, and praised and glorified is Thy name for ever. Amen.
May Thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as our trust is in Thee.
Blessed art Thou, O Lord; teach me Thy rights.
Blessed art Thou, O Master; grant me to understand Thy rights.
Blessed art Thou, O Holy One; enlighten me by Thy rights.
Thy mercy, O Lord, is eternal. Despise not the works of Thy hands.
To Thee belongs praise, to Thee belongs song, to Thee glory belongs,
To the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
Now and ever, and to the ages of ages.
Amen.

O Almighty Lord, Word of the Father, Jesus Christ, Who Yourself are perfect, for the sake of Your great mercy, never depart from me, but dwell in me forever. O Jesus, Good Shepherd of your sheep, deliver me from the attacks of the evil one. Lord Jesus Christ, Holy King, keep me while I sleep in the unchanging light of Your Holy Spirit, the Spirit with which You sanctified Your disciples. Enlighten my mind with the light of understanding Your holy Gospel, my soul with the love of Your Cross, my heart with the purity of Your Word, my body with Your sacred Passion, my senses with Your humility, and awaken me at the proper time to glorify You. For You, above all, are adorable, together with Your eternal Father and Holy Spirit, now and forever.

As is often the case with technical subjects we are presented with an unfortunate choice: an explanation that is accurate but incomprehensible, or comprehensible but wrong.

Thou made flame sprinkle the Saints with dew,
And burned the sacrifice of a righteous man with water.
For Thou alone, O Christ, do all as Thou wills.
Thee we exalt throughout all ages.

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me.

How can I not weep when I think of death?
For I have seen my brother lying in his coffin, inglorious and hideous.
What, then, do I expect? And what do I hope for?
Only grant me, O Lord, repentance before my end.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:

I believe that Thou will come to judge the living and the dead,
And all will stand in order, old and young, lords and princes, priests and virgins.
Where shall I find myself? Therefore I cry:
Grant me, O Lord, repentance before my end.

Now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

No longer does the flaming sword guard the gate of Eden,
For a glorious extinction has come upon it, the wood of the Cross.
The sting has been drawn from death and the victory from hell.
And Thou, my Saviour, didst come and shout to those in hell:
Enter Paradise again.

As of old Thou didst redeem us from the curse of the law by Thy Divinely-shed Blood, O Jesus,
Likewise rescue me from the snares in which the serpent has entangled us through the passions of the flesh,
Through lustful suggestions and evil despondency, as we cry to Thee:
Alleluia!

Most blessed is Your Virgin Mother, O God.
For incarnate of her, You made hell captive,
Adam was recalled,
The curse annulled,
Eve set free,
Death slain,
And we are given life.
Therefore we sing and shout:
Blessed is Christ our God, Whose pleasure it was. Glory to Thee.
